When we were getting started, we were adamant that we would pay our writers. It was right there in our application for funding. We’re Northern Gravy. This is what we do. We’re writers as well. We know how hard it is to write, how much it takes out of you, what a commitment it truly is. And we want to reward people for the hard work they put in.
We rely on funding. We don’t make a profit from Northern Gravy, we aren’t a business. We’re only here because of the generosity of other organisations like the Arts Council and Sheffield Hallam University, but that only takes us so far. There’s so much more we want to do, so many more people we want to reach, so many more stories and poems and words we want to publish and rave about.
But we need your help to do it.
We pay our writers. We always have, and we always will, as long as we can keep this thing going. If you believe, like we do, in the power of new writing, in giving a home to the brightest new talents, to giving writers recompense for the hard work and sacrifices they have to make to hone their craft, then help us. It doesn’t take a lot, but if you want to be a part of this, we’d be very grateful.
